ATV Maintenance Tips
A well maintained ATV will last longer and perform better overall. You may be surprised to learn that many of the easier ATV maintenance tasks can be performed at home if you have the right parts and tools. Use this maintenance guide from Gordo’s Rent-All to take care of your ATV.
Review Your Owner’s Manual
Always review your owner’s manual before attempting any kind of maintenance work on your ATV. It contains invaluable information concerning your quad’s service needs, as well as tips on how to avoid accidentally damaging anything. The owner’s manual should also have a list of which products can be used with your ATV without damaging it.
Oil
The oil in your ATV’s engine lubricates the moving parts so that they don’t grind against each other and cause damage. If your vehicle’s oil feels gritty to the touch, that means that it’s full of metal shavings and the oil isn’t doing its job properly. You should also replace the oil if it appears sludgy. Outside of that, regularly inspect your ATV’s oil and replace it as often as your owner’s manual recommends.
Changing the Filters
Filters perform the important function of keeping harmful particles out of your ATV. Your quad’s oil filters should be swapped out every time you do an oil change, while the air filters can go three to four oil changes before they need to be replaced. Fuel filters can go a long time without needing to be replaced, but even they eventually get dirty. Check your ATV’s fuel filters every once in a while to check if they are in need of replacement.
Spark Plugs
Spark plugs provide your ATV’s engine with the initial spark it needs to start. If your ATV has problems turning over, the problem might be a broken or worn down spark plug. Luckily, spark plugs are very easy to replace. Simply disconnect the battery and remove the engine cover. From there you can use a spark plug wrench to remove the plug.
