UTVs, sometimes referred to as side by sides or quads, are great for trail riding, property management, and hunting among other things. If you’re interested in purchasing a UTV and want to get as much as you can out of the experience, this guide from Gordo’s Rent-All has some helpful tips.

Create a Budget

Step one should be to create a budget. Not only will it be helpful to have a set price limit so that you don’t accidentally spend more than you can afford, a budget will make it easier to keep track of extra expenses. Things like licensing fees, maintenance costs, and the cost of buying riding gear can add up quickly.

UTV Size

Larger UTV models usually cost more, but they can fit more people and passengers. When shopping for UTVs, try to find a model that is big enough that you won’t be forced to take multiple trips but not so large that you overshoot your budget.

Terrain

UTVs are designed to handle a variety of off-road conditions, but certain kinds of terrain can present unique challenges. If you know, for example, that you’ll be doing a lot of riding in areas that have a lot of rocks that might scrape the bottom of your vehicle, look for a model that features a higher ground clearance so that your UTV won’t get damaged as much.

Features

UTV can come equipped with a variety of features. Look for models that will be a good fit for how you plan to use the UTV. For example, if you plan to use the UTV around a farm, it should be compact enough to squeeze through fence gates while still having enough raw power to be useful for utility work. If you’re a hunter, look for a model that has a camo-paint job and can be outfitted with a rifle scabbard. If you want to use your UTV for landscaping work, you’ll want a model that has enough storage space for all your tools and materials.
